Episode 64: Insiders, Emails & Texts, Oh My! (Dave, Eddie & More)

This week, Darren and Steve dig deep into two big stories and David Lee Roth and Van Halen news. Starting first with the great (transcribed) interview a Van Halen-themed podcast did with a VH insider -- and that person had a LOT to talk about!
Alongside that, there's the recent story of the former music journalist who befriended Eddie Van Halen via email, and EVH sure told him a lot over nearly five years! SO much to unpack from both those stories: Eddie's relationship with Dave, the reunion, the end, Dave's health, unreleased music in...Dave's basement (?!), the "kitchen sink tour" and much more.

Episode 63: R.I.P. Brett Tuggle + Interview With Gary Marino

At the top, Darren and Steve discuss the death of keyboardist/musician Brett Tuggle. Brett played with Dave on the Eat 'Em & Smile tour, played on and co-wrote three songs (including "Just Like Paradise") on Skyscraper, toured with Dave for Your Filthy Little Mouth and (possibly) helped out putting together Dave's 2019 band. Brett was also in Fleetwood Mac for 20 years, played with Lindsey Buckingham solo and also played with a slew of others, including Jimmy Page, Rick Springfield, David Coverdale, John Kay and Steppenwolf, Styx’s Tommy Shaw, and Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels. Remember when DLR replaced Howard Stern? This week's interview is with a guy who helped get Dave ready for that gig, Gary Marino. Gary is a Boston-area native who has spent time with David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and Gary Cherone. He's a jack-of-all-fun trades: tours all over New England with the comedy and rock & roll band World Gone Crazy, is the founder and producer of Cape Cod Comedy Fest, a producer, writer, director and DJ. He's got great stories of spending time with all of Van Halen's lead singers, thoughts on Dave's time on the radio, DLR's solo albums and much more!

Episode 62: Is David Lee Roth Coming Back?

Darren and Steve speculate on Dave's recent trip to Mexico, thanks to a video from an intrepid Fox reporter at Los Angeles International Airport. Was it a private gig? Is Dave coming back? Did he really retire? Plus, Darren re-reads "Crazy From The Heat" and a lot of mystery leads to a lot unknown.

Episode 61: More David Lee Roth & Van Halen Tribute Stuff + Interview with Konishiki

Still more speculation on the Van Halen tribute that may or may not have been or may still be, or just may never be at all! How long ago did Joe Satriani, Alex Van Halen, and Dave all speak? And what about Sammy Hagar? Plus, members of Dave's most-recent band have recently been posting on Instagram from Henson Studios...why? Also, the myriad of things Dave turned down through the years and "Dave and confused." 
This week's interview is with actor, musician, TV host, philanthropist and legendary sumo wrestler Konishiki. He was the first non-Japanese-born wrestler to reach ōzeki, the second-highest possible rank in the sport. During his career he won the top division championship on three occasions and came very close to becoming the first foreign-born grand champion, or yokozuna. If you saw Dave's 2013 short film Tokyo Story, Konishiki played Big Brother. Darren talks with him about that, the WWE, his amazing success in sumo, being born and raised in Hawaii, and much more. And yes, that's him pictured within the artwork of Big Ones by Aerosmith.

Episode 60: Van Halen Tribute News & An Interview With David Lee Roth Guitarist Jake Faun

At the top: Darren and Steve talk about the breaking news about a possible Van Halen tribute tour (or shows) featuring Joe Satriani, Alex Van Halen, Jason Newsted and/or David Lee Roth. How far along did it get? Who else has been mentioned and who hasn't? Plus, Dave's very interesting response to the news. 
This week's interview is with guitarist Jake Faun. Jake was in Dave's band for the KISS dates in 2020 before COVID-19 put the kibosh on it all. Its a great conversation! Jake talks about getting the gig and talks about learning Van Halen songs, playing with Al Estrada, how long the touring with Dave was supposed to go, meeting Steve Vai backstage in Los Angeles, and more.

Episode 59: No News Is Good News (?) & An Interview With Durga McBroom

Darren and Steve talk about how things are quiet with David Lee Roth...the various Van Halen reunion stories and what, if anything, is believable... Alex Van Halen runs the show? How deep does that rabbithole go? 
This episode, Darren has a great interview with singer Durga McBroom! Durga also appears in Dave's first 3 videos: "California Girls," "Yankee Rose" and "Just A Gigolo." She spoke about how she ended up doing that; why despite being an amazing vocalist she never sang on a DLR record, the perfect woman for Dave, a big mystery solved about the "Yankee Rose" video, Pete Angelus, "...not if you were the last immigrant grocer on earth, honey," some really strange stuff with little people, and much more. 
Durga McBroom has performed with Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Billy Idol, acted in multiple movies, was a founder of the band Blue Pearl, and regularly performs as half of the McBroom Sisters, with her sister Lorelei McBroom.

Episode 58: Darren, Sammy Hagar Live & An Interview With Former DLR Guitarist Frankie Lindia

At the top: Darren is back in Las Vegas -- and sees a terrific and fun Sammy Hagar show. What Van Halen songs did Sammy and band (including Michael Anthony) play?

Episode 55: Interview With Violinist/Musician Melissa Reiner (Part 2)

In this excellent second installment, Darren talks with violinist extraordinare Melissa Reiner. Melissa played on songs heard in the David Lee Roth's "No Holds Bar-B-Que" film, as well as appearing on-camera. Melissa talks reheasing with the band, recording Dave's cover of Electric Light Orchestra's "Shine A Little Love," Van Halen's "Mean Street," being comfortable on-set, and Dave's interest in learning the violin, and what she's up to now!
